What Does Lab Tested Mean and Why Does It Matter?

“Lab tested” is a term that appears on a lot of product labels, but what it actually means can vary widely.

Why Natural Ingredients Need Testing

Plants grown on the same plot of land can vary from one season to the next. Differences in sunlight, soil composition and plant genetics all play a role. These natural differences are expected, and that's exactly why testing matters.

Testing happens at three stages, from arrival to finished product.

Test 1: Raw Ingredients

Each ingredient is independently lab tested to confirm identity, potency and purity before use.

  • Identity: To confirm that the ingredient is genuine, and not a substitute.
  • Potency: To check the strength of the active ingredient and whether it has been (or needs to be) diluted.
  • Purity: To ensure the ingredient is pure and doesn’t contain additional substances.

These steps come first because everything that follows depends on them. Our active ingredients are individually listed in the HPUS (Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States), which is the official quality standard for homeopathic drug products in the US.

Test 2: The Formula

Every batch of formula undergoes strict quality control and independent third-party testing to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Conformance: To confirm that the batch meets established product specifications.

Consistency: To ensure every batch is produced according to the same specification, every time.

Once the formula has reached this stage of testing, there's one test left to go.

Test 3: The Finished Product

A lot can happen between product formulation and delivery, and this test exists to account for that.

Each finished product undergoes final testing by an independent third-party laboratory to confirm that quality and consistency standards have been met.

Why ‘Independent’ Matters

Independent lab testing, also called third-party testing, means each product is tested objectively by an external party. This provides an additional level of objective verification.

In addition to third-party testing, our products also undergo strict in-house quality control to review each formula against our exacting standards.

What Triple Lab Testing Does (and Doesn’t) Mean

Our testing process is designed to verify product quality and conformance with established specifications throughout the manufacturing process. It’s about checking the product and how it’s made, not proving what it does.

Lab testing does not guarantee that a product will produce a particular result. Individual experiences can vary. Rather, testing provides quality checks at different stages of production to help ensure that applicable product specifications are met.

Note: Always speak to a medical professional if you are unsure whether or not a product will be suitable for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are our answers to some common questions about triple lab testing.

What does ‘triple lab tested’ mean?

If a product is triple lab tested, it means it has undergone tests at three stages: raw ingredients, formulation, and finished product.

Is every formula tested?

Yes, every Healing Natural Oils formula goes through quality control and independent third-party testing to check accuracy and consistency.

Why test at three stages instead of one?

Each testing stage serves a different purpose. Raw ingredient testing confirms identity, potency and purity. Formula testing checks accuracy and consistency. Final product testing provides a final check against established quality and consistency specifications.

What if a product isn't right for me?

Product results will vary from person to person, which is why each of our products is backed by a 90-day money back guarantee.
